| If - If 3
|
(United Artists UAG-29158 UK-71 VG+ 300:-)
If was Great Britain's contribution to the jazz-rock movement, producing several albums noteworthy for placing jazz players in a pop/rock band context and producing a true fusion of the two genres without diluting the players' improvisational skills.
"If 3" continues in the same jazz-rock vein as its predecessors, with strong solo work from reedmen Dave Quincy and Dick Morrissey, and the unique fretwork of fleet-fingered guitarist Terry Smith.

| Iron Maiden - Powerslave
|
(EMI 1C 064-2402001 EU-84 VG+ 375:-)
'Powerslave' represents the essence of Iron Maiden at the pinnacle of their "golden age", and is the first album without any lineup changes in the band.
No other album so clearly captures the spirit of power, fantasy, and emotion. The songs are for the most part superb, with four of them becoming timeless Maiden classics.

| Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time
|
(Capitol SJ-12524 Can-86 VG+ 375:-)
'Somewhere in Time' contains more than a few highlights, such as the ferocious album opener, 'Caught Somewhere in Time' as well as softer singles 'Wasted Years' and 'Stranger in a Strange Land'. As with the band's preceding studio release, 'Powerslave', another masterful composition closes the album, in this case, the sprawling 'Alexander the Great'.
Departing from the familiar sounds of stellar earlier releases like 'The Number of the Beast' and 'Piece of Mind', this album explores new musical territory with the addition of synthesizers, while maintaining its trademarks - galloping bass, heavy guitar riffs, and operatic vocals.
